On a chilly fall afternoon this past Sunday, 16 students, 4 faculty members, 2 faculty children, and 1 faculty dog embarked on a challenge to “End Hunger One Step at a Time.” We walked to raise awareness and money for local, state, and global hunger in this year’s CROP WALK, an annual event sponsored by Church World Services. The Eagle Hill Pioneers were able to fundraise just over $1,200 that will help supply healthy food, emergency food supplies, seeds and livestock, wells, and clean water to people in Hardwick, in Massachusetts, all over the U.S., and around the globe. All of the students were generous with their time, their smiles, their laughter, and their donations, and it was a joy to say that I was with this group of high school students. State Senator Stephen Brewer, who walked with us on Sunday, made it a point of saying how proud he was of these young people for believing they could make a difference, and working together to do that. He reminded them, “Each of us has the ability to change the world.” When I look at this picture, I feel certain this is true. Each of their 4,000 steps brought our students a little closer to realizing it for themselves.
